Risk
- Leading in creating a culture and environment in which proactive risk management and assurance reporting is embedded at all levels in the organisation to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-centred services.
- Providing a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence and be responsible for developing a Trust Strategy and policy for risk management.
Compliance
Support the Assistant Director of Patient Safety in working in partnership with the Divisions and Executive Team to influence and provide advice and coaching that enables the network to effectively drive, deliver and provide evidence based assurance that the requirements of quality and regulatory compliance are being implemented effectively and sustainably.

- Providing a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence and be responsible for developing a Trust Strategy and policy for risk management.
- Responsibility for professional leadership and improvement strategies in the area of risk management
Compliance
Support the Assistant Director of Patient Safety in working in partnership with the Divisions and Executive Team to influence and provide advice and coaching that enables the network to effectively drive, deliver and provide evidence based assurance .
- Deputising for the Assistant Director of Patient Safety as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Who we are looking for:
In order to succeed in this challenging role, the post holder will have the technical knowledge and leadership style to support and influence the development of a culture of patient safety in close co-operation with the Assistant Director of Patient Safety.
We are looking for someone who:
- Will work closely with senior leaders to include clinical and non-clinical staff and be responsible for all aspects of risk and compliance management and contribute towards the Trust’s overall risk management arrangements.
- Will provide support and guidance to clinicians and managers in all aspects of risk and compliance management and ensure that the Trust’s commitment to managing risk in a co-ordinated, systematic, transparent and focused way is achieved. The post holder will be the focal point to managing compliance against external regulation.
- Has the relevant senior management experience at a senior level
- Has a track record of designing and implementing risk and patient safety processes proven to provide excellent assurance across a complex agenda.
- Has the ability to communicate with a diverse workforce at all levels of the organisation
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to Degree level
- Recognised management qualification at minimum of post graduate diploma level
Desirable criteria
- Recognised professional qualification in either Medicine, Nursing or Allied Health professions
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive knowledge of Risk Management and Patient Safety in healthcare
- Relevant experience at senior management level in an acute Trust
- Experience of managing teams
- Experience of working with senior governance committees within an NHS Trust
- Experience of risk management systems and processes and writing policies
- Experience of working collaboratively with senior managers and clinicians
- Experience of working across multi-professional boundaries
Training
Essential criteria
- Ability to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in relevant fields
Special Knowledge / Expertise
Essential criteria
- Track record of designing and implementing risk and patient safety processes proven to provide excellent assurance across a complex agenda.
- Relevant and recent experience of quality surveillance and assurance
- Good understanding of the regulatory frameworks for NHS Trusts including the roles of the Care Quality Commission and NHS England and NHS Improvement
- Skilled in understanding and interpreting legislation and regulations and able to translate these into operational systems
Desirable criteria
- Training in root cause analysis

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
